The Auburn Pacific 240 is on a mission to help The Story Family

Melissa is a proud single mother of four amazing children. Her kids are her world, her strength, and her reason for everything she does. They are a close-knit family who treasure the simple moments—Sunday hikes, laughing over board games, and enjoying time together. Recently, their lives were turned upside down in ways they never could have imagined.

This is the story of her 18-year-old son, Malachi—a young man with a kind heart, a bright spirit, and a life just beginning. It is also the story of a family’s strength, their faith, and their heartfelt need for support as they face the hardest challenge of their lives.

In loving memory of Malachi Story

Malachi Story was just 18 years old. Born on October 16, 2006, he was the second of four children and the heart of his family. Malachi was known for his bright spirit, infectious smile, and the way he could make everyone around him laugh.

He loved nature, fishing, and reading, and cherished time spent with family and friends. Malachi often joked about how “trim” he was—his way of saying he looked good—and proudly declared “I’m Him,” a playful expression of his confidence and humor. He enjoyed teaching his younger brother video game cheat codes, teasing his sisters, and filling their home with laughter.

Since his passing, the absence he left behind has been overwhelming. His younger brother often goes into Malachi’s room just to sit quietly and look at his pictures. The family is still coming to terms with a loss that has changed their lives forever.

Malachi’s Fight

In January of 2025, Malachi became ill. On February 24, 2025, he was diagnosed with myxoid pleomorphic liposarcoma, a rare and aggressive form of soft tissue cancer. Tragically, this cancer is hereditary—Malachi’s father had previously passed away from the same disease and Malachi’s older half-brother was diagnosed at just 14 years old and lost his life at 19.

As Malachi’s condition worsened, Melissa became his full-time caregiver and lost her job as a result. Despite this, she devoted herself completely to his comfort, safety, and daily needs, determined that he would be surrounded by love throughout his fight.

Despite the family’s strength and unwavering devotion, Malachi passed away on September 21, 2025, in his bedroom—surrounded by the place he felt safest and most loved.

His passing left the family not only grieving, but facing significant financial hardship after months without stable income. Malachi had been the glue of the household—their humor, their comfort, and their constant source of joy. His absence is felt in every room of the home.

How Your Donations Will Help

The funds raised through this fundraiser will help support Malachi’s family as they work to rebuild after this devastating loss. Donations will assist with:

  • Paying past-due bills that accumulated while Malachi’s mother was unable to work
  • Purchasing basic necessities and food
  • Regaining stability after months of emotional and financial strain

After experiencing how suddenly life can change, part of the funds will be used to secure life insurance for the remaining children, helping protect the family’s future. Any remaining funds will be placed into savings to help the family move forward during this incredibly difficult time. Every contribution, no matter the amount, helps provide relief and stability to a family navigating unimaginable grief.
